Toy Soldiers

My friend Rae introduced me to this awesome new band called Toy Soldiers, and all the members of the band are college students from Philly! From February through July of '09 Toy Solider, spent long hours making their first record. "Aside from being a completed piece, it was the reason we now have this big ol' band of people playing together and we must say we're more than happy and satisified with every moment of every song on the record." Their style is pretty indie/hipster/rocker chic and you can see their individual personalities reflected through their outfits, and of course their music. They have a really diverse sound, you can see for yourself here on their myspace. You would seriously be missing out if you don't check 'em out, they're definitely a band you'll be able to say you "knew them when..." If you live in Philly keep theyre eyes open for concerts and such...

Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show

What’s going on here? Hundreds of New Yorkers, shopping bags in hand, are waiting in a line that snakes down 18th Street, causing sidewalk traffic jams. You can almost feel the electricity in the air -- that special high dedicated shoppers get when they’re on the scent of a wonderful “find.” Well, this season the secret is out. Those patient gate-gatherers are waiting for their first crack at the Manhattan Vintage clothing Show. And this fall it’s all about being “Fashion Smart” and having fun when the show returns to the Metropolitan Pavilion, Oct. 9 and 10 for a two-day event that is billed as “the Most fun You will ever Have shopping.” And, what fun it is! The show is packed with booth after booth of great “finds” -- vintage fashions that look as though they came straight off the runway , only at a fraction of the price of store look-alikes and designer originals. The Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show is where fashion ideas are born. Over ninty exhibitors present the best of the past --silhouettes and trends that are as current today as they were when they came off the designer’s sketchpad. And in a time when so many of us are stretching our clothing budget -- in fact, straining it at the seams -- this is where you will find designer fashion at prices that won’t put you in debt. AHH I CAN'T WAIT go to their website here :)

'London's Newest One to Watch'

Designer Lu Flux has just launched The Echo Life of Riley her S/S '10 collection. It is her first collection after being named "London's Newest One to Watch" last season at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, during London Fashion Week. The contemporary menswear and womenswear collections represents an antithesis to the modern trend of expendable fashion. She works with salvaged, vintage and organic fabrics combined with traditional techniques of knitting, pleating, and patchwork. "The aim is to make something new out of something old, so as to consume less and reduce waste"--Lu Flux. The inspiration of the collection was the "humble bluetit" which developed along side an interest in the jarring of graphics, particular bold arrow graphics, with lighter fabrics. Lu Flux's studio will be open during London Fashion Week, for press and buyers, by appointment only.

Rachel Antonoff

"All the Worlds a Stage" a commonly known phrase that Rachel Antonoff based her collection off of. Real Ballet dancers, models and even actresses (well just one Alia Shawkat) brought her show to life. The collection showcased vintage inspired floral dresses, satin rompers, laced detailed, tap shorts and ruffled blouses. Maybe i'm just bias here but you all know im a sucker for a vintage inspired collection, especially put to a show? SPECTACULAR, SPECTACULAR... photocred: teen vogue and fashion156

My Dream Closet

I mentioned this thrift store a few days ago, and i am so excited to post about it. The store is called Piccadilly Court located on 28 N. Bryn Mawr Ave, in a very discrete building. I was walking to the train station and saw a "50% off sign" on the railings outside the store and could very easily tell it was a vintage shoppe. Obviously i wanted to check it out and since the store was so hidden it couldn't figure out where the main door was hah. Anyway, as soon as i walked in my jaw dropped and i was in awe. Piccadilly Court is by far the best vintage store i've ever been in, it not only is perfectly and logically organized (which is very rare when it comes to vintage shoppes and thrift stores) but it has the most amazing pieces and prices. I can not even begin to explain to you how much i was screaming and running around, i was in Willy Wonka and the Clothing Factory. Here are a few pictures from the shoppe and there are much more to come. I bought an adorable hand made, vintage vest that ill take a picture of tomorrow. The best part is, I AM GOING TO WORK THERE! Last ABC post

This is the last post about the ABC party i swear hah. I didn't get a chance to take pictures of these outfits and the lighting in my basement wasn't ideal. The 1st outfit was made out of newspaper, ripped table cloth (black and white), crumpled magazine paper, and i splattered ink all over the skirt. The top was made from a black trash bag, and to make the broach i repeatedly folded newspaper and tied it in the middle with a ribbon and glued it onto a few cards. The belt is quite obviously made from duck tape. To make this dress i glued individual "rose" petals from the dollar store onto a trash bag and sinched it at the waist with red ribbon for a belt. I used a white trash bag for the top and stuck my arms through the sides and rolled up the rest of the material. For this outfit i placed numerous goody bags on top of the yellow table cloth material, that was also used for the skirt. I gathered the skirt at the waist by putting duck tape behind the gathered material to hold it in place. I left most of the material form the table cloth and rolled in under the skirt to get the bubble effect. Hope you like them :) PICS: by me

My Weekend

These are only some of the many pictures from the ABC party, i'll post the Woodstock ones tomorrow. I unfortunately don't have pictures of my personal two favorite (besides my own) outfits, a friend of mine took them for me because i was late to the party working on the other outfits. Overall, i would do this party again in a second! I was most inspired by just looking at the person and then taking a glance at the scattered materials on the floor of my basement or what i like to call "My Work Place". I can't wait to show you the other two outfits because in my opinion they looked the most wearable and less avaunt guard. I can't believe that the contestants on Project Runway thought this was hard, i could make at least 10 more. :D I might have to if i don't get the pictures. it was rainy and the ink bleed onto my skin hahah PICS: by me
